A walk around Tainan

Today we walked, and walked, and walked around Tainan. I really do not know how far we walked but we were gone all day.

It was fun though. We went to a few department stores but quickly left because we wanted to experience Tainan...not Macy's :)

It's really not a big city but there are sections. We walked down streets and named them ourselves based on how many of the same type stores were in a row. There was the food road, the clothing road and the wedding road just to name a few.

We went into an old Taiwan temple/tower. It was pleasant with ponds that had large koi and old buildings. I took several photos but need to wait to post any until we come home.

We were on the search for a gift to give to Joy when she is older and determined not to give up until we found one. We proceeded to walk up and down several streets armed only with a map and our instinct...what an adventure :) That's when we came upon a Boba drink store. Grace was pretty tired at this point until we mentioned Boba. She then screamed "bobo!" So we bought 2 drinks since we were not sure if Grace would drink it. She drank the whole thing, so we turned around to get another one so that Phuong could have some too.

It was fun trying to communicate. Although many people speak English here there were a few times when we used the little Chinese that we know. The people at the Boba store were really nice and helpful.

Then we found a cute little side street where people set up tables to sell items. We got Joy a few things, bought some steamed buns and took more photos.

On the way back to the hotel we found a Catholic Church where they were holding mass. I thought this was interesting. China was so different where Christianity is really not openly practiced, yet here it was in the middle of Tainan. There was a gentleman who approached us. I said we were Christian but happy to see a church in Tainan. He asked where we were from (in English)and after I told him he said that the mass was in English, given by a Hispanic priest from the Philippines...wild. Grace was very tired and we still had a long way to walk, so we continued on.

The people we encountered were really nice. Even this old couple we passed on the street said hello. He was helping his wife to walk (slowly) but smiled when he stopped to let us pass and I said Xie Xie (thank you) and God Bless. He asked where we were from as well. Very pleasant people. We have determined that we really like Tainan :)

I carried Grace the rest of the way back to hotel. She really is doing well on the trip...praise God. She is getting heavier though :)
The weather has also been really good to...hot and humid, but no rain.

Tomorrow we go to St. Lucy's center at 10 AM. It's only 20 min. from our hotel. Excitement is building.
